China Town Excursion

As a part of our integrated studies curriculum students in year 6 had the opportunity to visit one of Melbourne’s very popular touristic destinations. Students gained an overview of Chinese and Chinese-Australian history and culture. In the Dragon Gallery, students learned about the powerful symbol of the Chinese dragon, the history of dragon parades in Australia and Melbourne’s unique role in reinstating processional dragons to post-Cultural Revolution China. Students also had the opportunity to experience a walk along “Chinatown” a distinctive and well known area of Melbourne which dates back to the gold rush days of the 1850s.
